Arrest supporters of Sterlite Copper plant and its top officials, - demands Anti-Sterlite People's Movement.

Seeking the arrest of the supporters of Sterlite Copper and its top officials, members of Thoothukudi District Anti-Sterlite People's Movement submitted a petition to the Superin- tendent of Police L. Balaji

Accusing the Sterlite Copper supporters of driving a wedge among the public, they submitted this petition.

As the Sterlite Copper remains closed ever since 13 persons were killed in the anti-Sterlite protest in May 2018 and the case seeking permission for the reopening of the plant is pending before the Supreme Court, people from various villages are submitting petitions to the Collector during the weekly grievances redressal meet being held at the Collectorate on Mondays seeking the reopening of the plant.

Protesting it, a group of people gathered at Fatima Nagar in the town on Monday night, who accused the Sterlite Copper manage ment of distributing grocery items to some of the residents in a bid to lure them. After the police told them to file a formal complaint They Dispersed

On Tuesday, the anti Sterlite group members submitted the petition to the Superintendent of Police. Accusing the Sterlite Copper of hiring a few from the port town to create animosity among the people, the members of Thoothukudi District Anti-Sterlite People's Movement submitted a petition to Mr. Balaji Saravanan

They said the Sterlite Copper, "which had hired a few people", was enticing the public with a range of assurances of giving assistance to them and asking them to submit petitions to the Collector seeking the re-opening of the plant.

"Since a few people from Thoothukudi and the top brass of Sterlite Copper are indulging in this act, they should be arrested,"

On behalf of Naam Thamizhar Katchi, the party's Thoothukudi district secretary Velraj also submitted a petition to the SP with a similar prayer.
